This form is for those who may need financial assistance whilst at college and meet the following criteria:

  Household income of £39,700 or less per year
  In receipt of certain benefits
  Looked After Child status

  For learners under the age of 19, we would recommend filling out this form with a parent / carer.

Please note that financial assistance is discretionary, and will be given in the form of College meals (Study Programme 16–19 learners), travel costs, materials / kits where required and printing credits.

Please ensure you upload evidence of your household income for 2024/25 or the last 3 months in the 'Verify' section of this form. Your application cannot be assessed without this.

Please note that all financial assistance decisions require additional evidence to be uploaded, verified and approved by a member of our Student Services team before financial assistance is put in place.

Financial assistance needs to be applied for and approved for each academic year.


Financial Assistance Option Rules and Criteria for Eligibility
16 – 18 Discretionary Bursary Available for learners 16 – 18 * (age on August 31st 2025) with a primary household income of £39,700 or less per year.

  You will need to upload a form of evidence of your household income in the 'Verify' section of this form.

* This includes learners who are now 19 years old, but were 16 – 18 when they started their course at Macclesfield College and learners aged 19 – 25 with an EHCP.

16 – 18 Vulnerable Bursary The learner must be aged 16 – 18 * (age on August 31st 2025) and one of the following statements must apply to the learner (not the parent / carer):
  I am In Care / a Care Leaver
  I receive Disability Living Allowance AND EITHER Employment and Support Allowance OR Universal Credit
  I receive Personal Independence Payment AND EITHER Employment and Support Allowance OR Universal Credit
  I receive Income Support or Universal Credit in my own name as I am financially supporting myself

  You will need to upload a form of evidence confirming one the statements above in the 'Verify' section of this form.

* This includes learners who are now 19 years old, but were 16 – 18 when they started their course at Macclesfield College and learners aged 19 – 25 with an EHCP.

19+ Hardship Fund Only available for learners who are 19 years and over with an individual income of £25,396 or less per year and who are studying on courses funded by the Adult Skills Fund (ASF) or an Advanced Learner Loan.

  You will need to upload a form of evidence of your individual income in the 'Verify' section of this form.

20+ Childcare Only available for learners who are 20 years and over and on courses funded by the Adult Skills Fund (ASF) or an Advanced Learner Loan.

  You will need to upload a form of evidence of your current Ofsted registered childcare provider in the 'Verify' section of this form.

Care2Learn All of the following statements must apply to the learner:
  I am the main carer for my child and I am in receipt of Child Benefit
  My child's other parent is unable to provide childcare and they are not claiming childcare through any other source

You will need to upload the following items in the 'Verify' section of this form:
  Child Benefit Statement
  Childcare Provider Headed letter which includes the provider's Ofsted Unique Registration Number, the providers bank account details and the provider's childcare fees.

Free School Meals The learner must be aged 16 – 18 * (age on August 31st 2025) and one of the following statements must apply to the learner or one of the parents / carers of the learner:
  Income Support
  Income–based Jobseekers Allowance
  Income–related Employment Support Allowance
  Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  The guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  Child Tax Credit (not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  Working Tax Credit run–on
  Universal Credit with net earnings not exceeding the equivalent of £7,400 for each year (after tax and not including any benefits)

  You will need to upload a form of evidence confirming one the statements above in the 'Verify' section of this form.

If you were in receipt of Free School Meals at your previous provider, due to being in receipt of Universal Credit, but no longer meet the earnings criteria you may be eligible for the transition funding. Please contact the team if you require further information.

Applications for financial assistance and associated evidence are seen only by college business support staff. It may be necessary for additional supporting information to be sought in order for a decision to be made.
